Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue was established in 1966 and is currently the third largest career fire department in Virginia. PWC has a combination system utilizing career staff and volunteers to staff units. Today, PWCDFR firefighters operate in all of the County’s individual stations, including those owned by volunteer corporations. A few of those stations are solely owned and staffed by Prince William County Fire and Rescue. Prince William Professional Fire Fighters affiliated with The International Association of Fire Fighters in 1977 with 49 members to now representing over 450 uniform fire fighters, paramedics, dispatchers and retirees.
